The Cote d’Argent or the Silver Coast is known as a mecca for lovers of surfing and windsurfing. The conditions are ideal with broad sandy beaches and rolling Atlantic breakers. Biarritz is extremely popular in the surfing fraternity and the town hosts a spectacular surf festival in July.

The superb beaches stretch down the coast of the Atlantic to reach Spain. In parallel with them lie the fragrant pine forests and further inland fertile valleys flourish with vineyards and fruit orchards.

For those who want to soak up some culture rather than sunrays, Bordeaux offers trips around local vineyards to learn about the local wine industry. Walking tours through Old Bordeaux can be extremely informative and will undoubtedly explore the Grand Theatre, which was built between 1773 and 1780. It is one of France’s finest theaters and is testimony to the expanding prosperity of Bordeaux’s emerging bourgeoisie.
