Grenoble

For lovers of mountain landscape and scenery Grenoble provides much gratification. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Drac and Isere and is nestled between the massifs of the Chartreuse, Vercors and the Belledonne. New constructions have been erected, such as the art gallery and these contrast with the more time honoured buildings of the old quarter. Old Grenoble is full of vitality with its outdoor market and numerous sidewalk cafes.

Places of interest include the Fort de la Bastille with one of its main attractions being the stunning views it affords of majestic mountain peaks. This bastion was built in the 16th century and controlled approaching routes to the city. Grenoble has no shortage of excellent museums varying from world acclaimed art collections to local culture and history exhibitions. For outdoor activities Grenoble makes a convenient base for skiing, hiking and walking.
